Vice President Dhankhar Emphasizes Strength and Independence of Indian Institutions

NEW DELHI, September 16: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has underscored the critical role of India’s institutions, highlighting their strength and independence amid recent debates. Speaking at an event in Mumbai on Sunday, Dhankhar addressed the importance of supporting and respecting the country’s institutions, including the Election Commission and investigative agencies, which he said are essential to upholding democratic values and the rule of law.

Dhankhar’s comments come in the wake of a recent Supreme Court observation by Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, who criticized the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in light of its handling of the excise policy case involving Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Justice Bhuyan described the CBI’s actions as unjustified and stressed the need for the agency to shed the image of being a “caged parrot.”

In his address, Dhankhar emphasized that the country’s institutions are designed to work together harmoniously to ensure that democratic values are nurtured and the Constitution is upheld. He warned against allowing political debates to undermine these institutions, stating that such disputes can “despirit” those who work under challenging conditions to serve the nation.

“The objective of all State organs is to ensure that the common man enjoys their rights and that India continues to flourish and prosper,” Dhankhar said. He added, “We must be extremely conscious of our institutions. They are robust, they work independently under the rule of law, and there are suitable checks and balances in place.”

Dhankhar’s remarks aim to reinforce the importance of maintaining the integrity of India’s key institutions, urging all stakeholders to respect their roles and contributions amidst political and public scrutiny
