Amritsar, Punjab — A suspected Pakistani intruder was shot dead by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel along the International Border in Punjab’s Amritsar district, officials confirmed on Monday.
The incident took place on Sunday night near Mahawa village, when BSF troops observed suspicious movement in the border area. According to a BSF spokesperson, the alert personnel noticed the intruder attempting to cross the international boundary under the cover of darkness.
“During the night hours, the vigilant BSF troops on duty observed the suspicious movement of an individual who had crossed the border and was advancing towards the border security fence,” the spokesperson stated. “The intruder was trying to take advantage of the darkness to approach the fence.”
When the troops challenged the individual, he ignored the warning and continued running towards the fence, prompting the BSF personnel to take action.
“Seeing his aggressive approach towards the fence, the troops were left with no choice but to open fire. The intruder was neutralized on the spot,” the spokesperson added.
Following the incident, a shoulder bag containing clothes and personal belongings was recovered from the intruder. Authorities are currently investigating the matter to determine the identity and intentions of the individual.
