SSP Mohan Lal Bhagat’s Resignation Accepted, Likely to be BJP Candidate from Akhnoor.

Jammu, 23rd August: SSP Mohan Lal Bhagat, a distinguished officer and a renowned social worker in his constituency, has had his voluntary retirement accepted by the Home Department of Jammu & Kashmir. Bhagat, who was known for his impeccable service record and influential presence throughout the Jammu region, is now poised to enter the political arena, with strong indications that he will be the BJP candidate for the reserved seat of Akhnoor in the upcoming assembly elections.

Over the years, Bhagat has earned a reputation as a respected figure in social and religious circles within his constituency. His involvement in various community activities has made him a popular figure across all castes in the region. Not only has he been a dedicated officer, but he has also actively participated in educational initiatives, guiding and mentoring students, which has further strengthened his rapport with the youth.

During his tenure, SSP Mohan Lal Bhagat held multiple key positions across various districts, establishing a significant influence throughout the Jammu division. His entry into politics is seen as a strategic move by the BJP to consolidate the substantial Scheduled Caste vote bank in the region.

A native of Gurha Jagir Panchayat in the Akhnoor assembly constituency, Bhagat hails from a humble background. His father served in the Indian Army because which Ex-serviceman are supporting him alot. Bhagat completed his schooling in Akhnoor before pursuing a Master’s degree in Botany. He joined the Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (JKPS) as part of the 1999 batch and has since served with distinction, earning numerous accolades for his bravery and service. These include the Police Medal for Gallantry (2002 and 2010), the Parakram Padak (2008), the DGP’s Commendation Medal (2012), and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2020). In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was also awarded the prestigious Central Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Training in 2021-22 and the Nelson Mandela Peace Award-2022 for his social welfare activities. Additionally, he has been honored with an honorary doctorate in Good Governance and Social Welfare by St. Mother Teresa University.

As a prominent member of the Bhagat community, the second-largest demographic in the Akhnoor constituency, Bhagat enjoys considerable support not only within his community but also among others. Despite his high-ranking position, he has remained deeply connected to his roots, frequently engaging with his village and local area even while serving in other districts. His candidacy is seen as a strong bet for the BJP, and with his resignation now accepted, his political ambitions are all but confirmed. Sources suggest that Bhagat will formally join the BJP soon.
