Mathura, Aug 27: Approximately 50 individuals, including women and children, have been hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning after consuming fritters made from buckwheat flour during Janmashtami celebrations, according to officials.
The incident occurred on the night of Monday to Tuesday. Victims reported severe symptoms such as vomiting, dizziness, and abdominal pain after eating the fritters, which were prepared with buckwheat flour purchased from a local vendor.
Priyanka, a teenager who was admitted to the government hospital, recounted her experience, stating, “After consuming the fritters last night, I started vomiting and experienced a burning sensation in my stomach.”
Parkham Singh, a resident of Parkham village, described the widespread impact, saying, “Many people began to complain about dizziness, vomiting, and shivering shortly after eating the fritters. Approximately 50 villagers have fallen ill.”
Mahesh, another local, expressed concern about his wife’s condition, stating, “She is so weak she can barely stand and has become almost unconscious.”
A doctor at the hospital confirmed that around 29 patients were admitted at 1 a.m. with symptoms of vomiting and anxiety. “I have been informed that some patients have been transferred to other hospitals for further treatment. All those admitted are receiving care, and their conditions are stable and improving,” the doctor reported.
Authorities are investigating the source of the contamination and taking necessary measures to prevent further incidents.
