Hemant Soren Sworn in as 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand

Ranchi, Nov 29, 2024 â€“ Hemant Soren, the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was sworn in as the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Thursday in a grand ceremony at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi. The 49-year-old tribal leader took the oath in the presence of a host of prominent leaders from the INDIA alliance, marking a significant moment in the state’s political landscape.

Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Soren. The ceremony was attended by key political figures, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, among others.

A Momentous Occasion for JMM and Jharkhand

Before taking the oath, Hemant Soren, dressed in a white kurta-pyjama and a Nehru jacket, met with his father and JMM President Shibu Soren. This marks Soren’s fourth term as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, further solidifying his leadership in the state. In the recent Assembly elections, Soren retained his Barhait seat by securing a victory over BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom with a margin of 39,791 votes.

The JMM-led alliance won a decisive victory, securing 56 out of 81 seats in the Jharkhand Assembly, while the BJP-led NDA could only secure 24 seats.

Political Leaders and Cultural Celebrations

The swearing-in ceremony was a significant political event, drawing leaders from across the country. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, CPI(ML) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, and Bihar’s Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav were also present to show their support.

Adding to the grandeur of the event, tribal troupes from across the state performed traditional dances, celebrating the occasion with drums (‘dhol’) and cymbals (‘nagara’) in vibrant attire. The air was filled with energy and cultural expressions, while tight security measures ensured the smooth conduct of the event.

In honor of the momentous occasion, schools in Ranchi city remained closed for the day, allowing residents to partake in the celebration of the new government’s formation.
