China Confirms Pact to Resolve Standoff in Eastern Ladakh

Beijing, Oct 22: China has confirmed that it has reached an agreement with India to resolve the military standoff in eastern Ladakh. During a media briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated, “Over a recent period, China and India have been in close communication through diplomatic and military channels on issues related to the China-India border.”

Lin emphasized that the two sides have now reached a resolution on pertinent matters, which China views positively. He added that China is committed to collaborating with India to implement these resolutions but refrained from providing further details.

The announcement follows India’s confirmation on Monday of an agreement concerning patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, marking a significant breakthrough in resolving the prolonged military standoff that has persisted for over four years.

The relationship between the two neighboring countries deteriorated sharply after a violent clash in the Galwan Valley in June 2020, which was the most serious military confrontation between the two sides in decades.

Regarding the upcoming bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, Lin mentioned, “We will keep you updated if anything comes up,” indicating that further discussions may take place at that event.
