Sakeena Itoo Distributes Motorized Tricycles to Persons with Disabilities in Jammu

On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, distributed 10 motorized tricycles (scooties) to individuals with disabilities at the Convention Centre in Jammu.

Additionally, Itoo presented cheques of Rs. 50,000 to Scheduled Caste (SC) beneficiaries under the Income Generation Component of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme.

Empowering Individuals with Disabilities

During the event, Itoo emphasized that the distribution of motorized tricycles would significantly enhance the mobility of the recipients, helping them become more independent. She noted that the tricycles would empower individuals with disabilities to navigate daily tasks more easily and lead more self-reliant lives.

“The motorized tricycles will not only provide better mobility but also promote independence, allowing recipients to be more active in their communities and workplaces,” Itoo said while interacting with the beneficiaries.

Support for SC Beneficiaries

Apart from the distribution of tricycles, Itoo also presented financial support to SC beneficiaries. The Rs. 50,000 cheques, provided under the Income Generation Component of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, aim to assist these individuals in establishing small businesses or pursuing other income-generating activities.

The event was attended by several key officials, including Principal Secretary of School Education, Suresh Kumar Gupta; Commissioner Secretary of Social Welfare, Sheetal Nanda; and Director of Social Welfare Jammu, along with District Social Welfare Officers (DSWOs) and other officers from the department.

A Step Towards Inclusion

Itoo further highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting persons with disabilities and marginalized communities, ensuring that they have the tools and resources needed to lead productive and fulfilling lives. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve accessibility, equality, and opportunities for all.
