Delhi’s Air Quality Deteriorates to ‘Severe’ with AQI Reaching 420

New Delhi, Nov 23 : Delhi’s air quality plunged back into the ‘severe’ category on Saturday morning, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) soaring to 420. The minimum temperature was recorded at 11.4 degrees Celsius.

Out of the 38 air monitoring stations in the capital, nine reported ‘severe plus’ air quality levels, with AQI exceeding 450. Nineteen stations recorded ‘severe’ levels between 400 and 450, while the remaining indicated ‘very poor’ air quality.

Humidity levels peaked at 97% around 8:30 AM. The maximum and minimum temperatures for the day are predicted to be 25°C and 12°C, respectively.

The hazardous air quality in Delhi has persisted for over 20 days. It first entered the ‘very poor’ category on October 30, remaining there for 15 days before deteriorating further into the ‘severe’ range last weekend. Conditions worsened to ‘severe plus’ by Wednesday, prompting widespread concern.

While favorable winds briefly improved air quality on Thursday, the respite was short-lived as pollution levels began to rise again on Friday, culminating in today’s severe AQI.
