Jammu and Kashmir Defeat Mumbai by 16 Runs in Thrilling KVS National Sports Meet Opener

Jammu and Kashmir secured a thrilling 16-run victory over Mumbai in the opening league match of the 53rd KVS National Sports Meet Cricket Tournament (Under-17) at Sage Cricket Ground, Lucknow. The tournament, featuring 23 teams from across India, runs from September 30 to October 6.

Batting first, Jammu and Kashmir set a formidable target of 107 runs in 12 overs, losing only four wickets. Wicketkeeper-batsman Vinit Rana starred with a quickfire 41 off 22 balls, hitting seven boundaries and a massive six. His innings provided the team with a solid foundation, while Somesh’s unbeaten 27 from just 12 balls, featuring two fours and two sixes, bolstered the total.

In response, Mumbai struggled to keep up with the required run rate, finishing their 12 overs at 91 for 8. Jammu and Kashmir’s bowlers, led by Nirbhay Khajuria, who took 4 wickets for just 15 runs in his 3 overs, dismantled Mumbai’s batting order. Somesh and Harsh also played key roles with the ball, each taking two wickets.

Despite efforts from Mumbai’s batsmen, the team consistently lost wickets at critical moments, making it difficult to gain any momentum. For his all-round performance, Somesh was named Man of the Match, contributing with both the bat and ball.

Jammu and Kashmir’s impressive win sets a strong tone for their campaign as they aim for a deep run in the prestigious tournament.
